Today’s tech-savvy travellers plan their holidays by first trawling the World Wide Web. With a few clicks, they get their flights, hotels and tour packages booked.
It’s not surprising that travel search engines like Wego.com are highly popular. Instead of combing countless websites, Wego helps you find the best deals for flights, hotels or travel packages based on your needs. For example you can find the cheapest flight to Vancouver, book a hotel room in Taipei (coupled with travellers’ reviews) or sign up for a heritage walking tour in Kyoto.
Wego CEO Martin Symes shares some tips on how to get the best deals:
>Destination: Airfare and hotel prices aside, take note of the spending power of your currency at the potential destination. For example, the ringgit has recently appreciated against the currencies in Vietnam, China and the United States, so Malaysians can stretch their money when visiting these countries. On the other hand, the ringgit doesn’t get you very far in countries like Australia, Canada and New Zealand.
>Travel dates: To get the most out of your hard-earned dough, avoid peak periods and plan well in advance. Based on search activity by Malaysians, Wego is already seeing demand spikes for the upcoming Chinese New Year and Easter holidays in 2010.
“Travel providers naturally will take advantage of these peak periods to charge higher prices,” says Symes.
>Where to book: Always shop around on at least a few websites to maximise your chances of finding the best prices and availability. Or use a comparison search engine like Wego.com. Other sites worth checking out are Zuji.com, Kayak.com, Wotif.com and igougo.com.
