Craving for fried noodle? Then try the mee goreng (fried noodle) at Bangkok Lane Mee Goreng which is considered one of the best in Penang. This stall has been around for over 80 years and the business has been passed down over several generations. The stall is operated by Mahboob Zakaria and his family. Mahboob is usually the main cook behind the kitchen who makes the tasty fried noodle. He is quite a friendly guy and speaks Hokkian like a native Penangite!
The special thing about the fried noodle is that the noodles are fried with chilli and tomato paste and gravy made from prawn stock and mashed sweet potatoes. As a result, you can taste a bit of sourness from the tomato paste while at the same time there is sweetness from the gravy. The best part is the noodle is non-oily and the spiciness is at a comfortable level. You can find hay chee or prawn fritters, taukua, eggs and squid in the noodles.
